In lines 17-20, ‘Two roads diverged into a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference”, Robert finishes the poem by saying that he took the riskier path that not many people take and it payed off for him. In lines 16 and 17, ‘I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence:’, he is saying that maybe in the future he will be regretful of his decision. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back.’, Robert Frost is talking about how he can only choose one path, and once he chooses it there is no turning back. In lines 11-15, ‘ And both that morning equally lay, In leaves no step had trodden black. In lines 8-10, ‘ Because it was grassy and wanted wear Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same’, he is saying about that the road he took was untraveled, but then he contradicts himself saying that the people passing had worn them just the same amount. In lines 6 and 7, ‘Then took the other just as fair, and having perhaps the better claim’, he is saying that both the roads are equal, but he is still taking this path. Lines 4 and 5, ‘And looked down one as far as I could, to where it bent in the undergrowth’, tell us that he is looking into the future but he can’t really see his final destination. In line 3 ‘And be one traveler, long I stood’ we have a sense that he is on his own and he is really thinking about which path to take. These lines also give us a sense of imagery as we can see in our minds a crisp autumn day with lots of yellow, orange and red leaves. These first two lines give us a sense of symbolism, as he is not really standing in front of two paths, they symbolise choices and decisions. He starts off by saying, ‘Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both’ this means that he has an important choice to make from two options, and he can only choose one.
